T61P temp s/ware.
Hi all,
Im back with a TP. A T61P. very nice too!!.
Am aware of the overheating problems with the Nvidia video chip. Im running Linux mint cinnamon. That been put on by my IT guru son .
Im only good at Hware.
so is there any s/wstre that will show the v/chip and processor themps for mint/ cinnamon?
If so then ill get my son to put it on for me.
Am happy to run the T61 aqt a cslower speed . My neds are very simple. no 3 d work etc.
thanks

psensor
Unrelated advice: Install propetrary Nvidia drivers if you haven't yet, it will boost performance.

Here's a different approach. You can see the thermal readings through Terminal as well. Just install the lm_sensors package and type sensors in the konsole. I don't know if psensor requires (and installs) the lm_sensors package. Used them both, though I'm Konsole junkie.
Current: Thinkpad Edge E540 15.4" - Core i5-4200M || 60GB Kingston V300 SSD + 500GB 7200rpm Hitachi Travelstar || 8GB RAM || Intel HD Graphics 4600 || PCLinuxOS 2015 64bit KDE

In addition to lm-sensors and/or psensor, check if the tp_smapi kernel module is loaded.
Open a terminal window, then type this:
And press Enter.
If tp_smapi is listed in the output, then you can use lm-sensors or psensor to display the sensors that tp_smapi exposes.
If tp_smapi is not listed, then you need to load it via modprobe:
If the command fails due to "Module tp_smapi not found" you need to install it via Mint's package manager.
I'm using Debian so I'm not sure which package manager Mint uses, but maybe it's Synaptic.
In any case, use the package manager's search function: the keyword is "smapi".
In Debian, the package is named tp-smapi-dkms. I think it's the same for Mint.
Open a terminal window, then type this:
Code: Select all
lsmod | grep -i "smapi"If tp_smapi is listed in the output, then you can use lm-sensors or psensor to display the sensors that tp_smapi exposes.
If tp_smapi is not listed, then you need to load it via modprobe:
Code: Select all
sudo modprobe tp_smapiI'm using Debian so I'm not sure which package manager Mint uses, but maybe it's Synaptic.
