Dual Compact Flash for X40 Laptop

#1 Post by SqaryScuirrel » Fri Apr 11, 2014 1:33 am

Does anyone know an adapter for under $15 that will work for using two Compact Flash drives in place of the regular IDE hard drive?

Does it make any difference if I attach the Compact Flash drives to the ZIF drive area, instead of the regular PATA / IDE boot drive area?

Can anyone recommend a specific adapter that has worked before with compact flash drives or SSDs, and the SSDs, if any, that worked?

It's my old air-gap laptop, but it's going to get better use when I give it to a friend as a school computer.

No remanent, writable storage is a great way to go for paranoid purposes, but I'd like to hand it over with a boot drive that isn't just one of my bootable USB sticks.

Is there any speed or configuration disadvantage to going with a MicroSD to CF drive to IDE/PATA setup?
