X200T, win8.1 and power manager

#1 Post by piledriver » Sun Apr 13, 2014 7:04 pm

I have been running Win8 on my X200T since it came out now, also updated to Win8.1 when it first came out, restored from backups as the "working OGL enabled" Intel GMA4500 driver got borked and I need OpenGL support for a couple apps I use.

In any case, tried to re-update to 8.1, hilarity ensued, would never update again, and I spent most of this weekend reinstalling Vista and updating it from scratch to win 8.1+ updates, which was effortless even if a huge time suck.

Here's the weird: I did a vanilla install until the final 8.1 updates were on, and now I cannot for the life of me install the Lenovo power manager.

It comes up with a "Warning:cannot run on this system"... which is really weird because it did before, on 8.0 and 8.1, same version (v6.64.4) installed using the same file (imaged old system backup img to a spare drive when this came up)

Also had issues with the Lenovo fingerprint software throwing similar errors, finally worked when I tried the same one I'm using on my X300 (version 6.0.0 build 8102) nothing for the X200 worked wit my new 8.1 installation.

I'm still thrashing on this, will post up if I find anything.

Let us know if you get it to work. As far as I understand, the Power Manager is not officially supported on Win8/8.1. Some got it to work, sort of, but reported various issues.

Haven't tried it in 8.1 yet, but I once managed to get the PM working in 8.0 by installing it in compatibility mode. It was an X200s instead of a X200T though...

My X200T is fully updated and I left power manager out for the moment. I don't feel a big difference in battery life (it runs slightly hotter, but this is different topic)

I actually punted and restored my previous 8.0 install from images (I use partclone) and tried updating it again, but this time, prior to running the 8.1 update from the store, I pre-installed the latest lenovo fingerprint software...
(version in previous post, the X300 pulled it via Lenovo system update, X200 system update does not see it?) rather than the authentec with the data personal "safe", various fix-it posts mentioned issues with encryption.

After a few iterations of sfc /scanow and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth it worked this time.

Again:The only thing I did different was uninstalling the authentec stuff and installing the newer version of the Lenovo fingerprint software that was on my X300. (I realize they were both really Authentec software, but something is different)
It's possible I did something else as well, as I have tried many "tricks"...

Powermanager did not get changed, seems to be working as expected, will keep an eye on it.
