Getting T61 windows 7 into AHCI mode

Folks, I got a nice T61 off of *bay and it is running Windows 7 in the compatibility mode and I want to switch over to AHCI mode before moving the OS over to a Crucial SSD. If I just switch in the bios it blue screens and I believe I should do this before migrating the OS to new drive, any suggestions or hints appreciated. Don't worry about it.

Just do a clean install on the SSD on the AHCI mode.

akj, OK, I'm a little confused, I can not do a clean install as I do not have a windows install disk. I was going to put the HDD in the ultrabay and the SSD in the main bay, and tried to boot off of the HDD with w7 but it would not boot, just a blinking cursor. So I put the SSD in the ultrabay and booted off HDD in the main bay. I then used AEOMI and the migrate OS to SSD, when it finished I moved the SSD into the main bay but it will not boot. I get a message saying, "the boot selection failed because a required device is in accessible"

Extract the current key from the W7 install if you don't have the key/COA.

I can't help you with the details on how to do it, but Google can

Download and burn a version-appropriate DVD. Notebook Review is your friend.

Once all of that is said and done, perform a clean install on the SSD.

Don't matter that much with a HDD. I would not bother. A SSD is a different matter.

Update: I tried to clone the SSD 3 times using AEOMI and no boot, went to EASEUS todo and first shot it worked. I fired it up a second time, into the bios, selected ACHI mode and saved and up it came again, all looks good.
