What would I use a smart card for?

I just bought a smart card IBM made by Gemplus for $3.00 (new) on ebay. What may I ask are they used for???

two factor logon.

You would need your password and the card to logon.

Why would you buy something if you did not know what it was used for?

Because it's "smart" of course!

I'm the same way - sometimes I'll see something that has no useful purpose for me, but I'll buy it anyway because I'm curious about it.
