reliable 3rd-party battery for X201

#1 Post by rdinnorthkent » Tue Apr 22, 2014 5:57 am

Anyone know of manufacturers of reliable batteries for Thinkpad X201? I would source from manufacturer but none available in the UK for this older model (apparently), so I've got to go to 3rd party suppliers. Having already thrown money at a battery that died after 2 months (despite good charging habits, I think), I'm wary.

Welcome to the forum!
Unlikely -- no one has ever found any Thinkpad batteries close to OEM quality. Note that, for the X201, even batteries ordered directly from Lenovo (Type 47/47+/47++) are likely to have manufacturing dates of 2010-2011 ... and, since Li-Ion batteries on the shelf are somewhat like lettuce on the shelf ... even batteries from Lenovo will not be "fresh" ... but certainly will be better than anything else you will find.

Even if you cannot get batteries from Lenovo where you are, your best solution may still be to find a way to get an OEM battery, perhaps via a friend.

Try these guys: http://www.laptopsandspares.com/

They are very good at sourcing batteries & don't use cheap imports. Ask for John. No I don't work for them ;) Just used them a fair bit

I've got a 9 cell Sanyo battery for my X200 and it seems pretty fine.
