Change HDD to Seagate Momentus XT in T500

#1 Post by kerenbanget69 » Wed Apr 23, 2014 1:44 am

Hai..

Two weeks ago i tried to change my HDD (WD black 320 GB) to Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB. This disk is a second hand disk and work fine in another leptop. Before use, i run a check disk with Sentinel. And the disk seems good.

I test to install windows 7 64 bit with the DVD original from Microsoft. I can activate windows but i can not validate windows. The serial is legit when i check to Microsoft. The effect is : when i turn on my T500, the reminder always come from microsoft that my windows is not genuine. I call the Microsoft staff again and they sure that my windows is legit and genuine.

So, the problem is not in the software but hardware.

Why does it happen? Until now, i can not understand

FYI : i used the same serial and installation windows media to install windows in WD 320 GB and all the software work fine (i can activate and validate windows)

Whatever the problem may be, I can assure you that it is NOT hardware ... not in the sense that you mean it. (Sorry that I cannot be more helpful, but perhaps knowing that the problem is not hardware may be of some use to you.)

Maybe it has to do with using the same Windows COA and its refusing to be used again.
I did come across this problem once with a machine I previously did a clean install with.
Worked fine for a year, but my aunt had a problem where somehow Windows wasn't genuine after a year.
I don't have a clue how it happened, but there were some toolbars and some adware/spyware on the machine since I left it.
Had to run a command SLMGR – REARM I think to fix it (I searched google for the fix I used previously, I don't have that good of a memory).
I did use the Windows COA on the bottom of the machine, due to it being infested with viruses with the original install.
Haven't had a problem since, it might not be the best solution but it may help.

I've been called the microsoft sulution center and they say that my serial is legit and i can used it again and can activated. The problem is.. i can not validated.

Is there any change that my hardware did not support the momentus XT? or is there any another setting ini the BIOS?

No and no. Forget automated activation. Select "Activate by phone ..." option, if available from your location -- if not, then use Skype to dial the US telephone number -- enter your Windows 7 product key, and manually activate Windows as instructed by the automated system.

While I am not claiming to know the exact cause of your problem, I had a related issue with a T400 (similar in every way to T500, but with smaller screen) when upgraded with a Hitachi 500 GB drive. For some reason, the larger drive caused "Windows Update" to stop functioning. Per the link below, I downloaded an Intel driver that solved my problem and it may work for yours". In my case, someone did Youtube video explaining the problem and solution - something that I would have never known about, but he did:
