Thinkpad Edge E531

#1 Post by RuidosoBill » Wed Apr 23, 2014 10:11 am

Working on an Edge E531 for a client. Looks like the machine came with windows 8 since it has a windows 8 sticker, downgraded to windows 7. When I start the machine all seems normal, user login and password, welcome screen then it displays black screen with cursor and it sits for atleast 10 minutes before it starts. Once started all seems well but I have never seen a machine take so long to start up. Any suggestions appreciated.

Regards,

Bill

Only time something like this happens to me is when there's a hardware issue. Most of the time it's the USB port or a USB device acting up. I'd disconnect everything, isolate and diagnose one item at a time. Before doing that though, try booting to a live Linux distro and see if it hangs up in a similar fashion. If not you know that it's most likely the Win 8 install.
