Ugly display

#1 Post by rosquillo » Wed May 18, 2005 7:47 am

My T23 display is a 1400x1050 one. At this resolution it looks smart but if I change it to 1024x768 or 800x600 with the "expand screen" option activates, it looks awfull.

In other laptops and in my TFT desktop display, when I use a resolution different from the native one, the screen looks slightly blurred in the edges of the elements but in mine pixels are simply duplicated or triplicated without any type of intelligent antialliasing. It happens not only with text but with drawings, icons and anything else. I have Win 2000 with "Text antialliasing" activated.

Is there anything I can make in order to get a screen like the one I see in my TFT desktop display (apart of desactivating "expand screen")?

Thanks.[/quote]

Nope, You pretty much need to run native resolution to make it look right. Those that run that resolution say you will get used to it after a while. That is why I have an XGA display because I want 1024x768.

Unfortunately I think this depends on the display control circuitry.

Have you tried just using larger sized icons and font settings in you OS and browsers while leaving it at the standard resolution? Using a lower resolution with an LCD is generally never recommended, even with those that scale it fairly well.

Is the "expand screen" function the same as changing the video resolution in "display properties"? You shouldn't see that much difference between LCD displays at non-native resolutions - they will all look worse than the native resolution but the thinkpad shouldn't be disadvantaged in any way.

My son runs his 15" 1400x1050 LCD (2373-3XU) at 1024x768 and, with cleartype, it looks pretty good.
