Repair display X200s
Repair display X200s
The X200s in our family has mysteriously developed a white area on the lower right corner of the screen [suspect a drop, but no one owns up to it <G>]. All other components are working and have provided good service.
We'd be interested in the cost of replacement. I'm not adept enough to tackle this problem.
Anyone know of a place to check, or someone on the forum who does this operation?
I'm not sure of where the cost break point is for such a repair; at what point is it not cost effective to repair this age unit?
We live in Southern California, near the Long Beach airport, if that makes any difference.

Re: Repair display X200s
The "top" of the machine can be swapped with one that works by removing a few screws. You can take a working "top" from something like the following, for circa $50:

Better still, replace the full X200 for circa $100-$150, put in your existing disk drive, and it's done. It make no sense to spend any more than that repairing, since the entire unit can be replaced for that amount. See below:

Re: Repair display X200s
Good suggestion, much appreciated and just for what this forum is noted.
Re: Repair display X200s
I'd just add that if you do want to take on the repair yourself, Lenovo has some excellent manuals.RRHODY wrote:Good suggestion, much appreciated and just for what this forum is noted.

I've done this repair a few times, if you're willing to set aside some time and are somewhat mechanically minded it really isn't terrible.

Re: Repair display X200s
I'm sure you're right. In my younger days I'd not hesitate, but cervical spinal stenosis has left my hands unable to deal with small items or hold a screw driver.

Ah, sorry to hear that. I'll actually be in CA this week, but SF unfortunately.RRHODY wrote:I'm sure you're right. In my younger days I'd not hesitate, but cervical spinal stenosis has left my hands unable to deal with small items or hold a screw driver.
If you're interested I'd be willing to take care of it for you, shipping both ways might be less than what a repair shop would charge.

Re: Repair display X200s
I followed the suggestion and got another whole unit; being "transplanted" right now. Thanks for the offer.
What a great forum !
