Thinkpad R61 no bluetooth in BIOS?

#1 Post by 508gm1 » Sat Apr 26, 2014 6:09 pm

Hello,

First post; thanks in advance for the help. I have a new to me R61. I like the machine, it works well. I am having issues getting a new bluetooth mouse I purchased working. I have gone through some online posts to try and resolve the issue, but to no avail. This machine does not have a bluetooth light beside the wifi light like my t41 did. I am pretty sure the machine is capable, but I'm not even sure how to check to see. I installed the driver, and it installed no problems and a small red bluetooth icon appeared in the task bar, and when I hover over it with the mouse, a long number appears, which I assume is an address of sorts. I can't do anything else with it. I do get a message that does say no device found. I am running XP SP. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help!

Cheers, Brendan

Sorry, also foregot to mention that there is no mention of bluetooth in BIOS anywhere. I updated BIOS to V2.24.

Welcome to the forum.
Not having a BT symbol usually means you have no BT to begin with.
The BT module (if present) is inside the lid on the left, under the screen.
The LCD cable also needs a BT connector. If not there, you need to replace the LCD cable with a BT one and add the BT module.

OK, so I am going to assume that this model did not come with Bluetooth. Would it be difficult to add? Would I just need to buy the adapter, or would I also need a new data harness to the screen? All help is appreciated!
