Effectively Removing Stripped Screws
I recently acquired a used x61. I want to clean the inside, upgrade the ram/cpu etc, but then I noticed that four of the screws to access the internals are completely stripped.
Based from your experiences, what methods would you recommend to effectively remove the stripped screws?

Re: Effectively Removing Stripped Screws
It depends on how badly stripped the screws are.
Sometimes using a flat-blade screwdriver of the right size is enough.
If there's enough space, grabbing the screw head with small pliers may also work.
Worst case scenarios usually involve an electric drill with a small bit to drill through the screw head.
Hopefully there's enough of the screw sticking out so you can grab it with small pliers.
Before going that route, you need to cover all the other parts of the laptop to protect them from the small bits of metal flying about as you drill.

Re: Effectively Removing Stripped Screws
Not sure why but the interior screws in the X61/X61 tablet are very soft and extremely easy to strip. These are the aluminium screws light in color.
I would be certain to use the correct size screwdriver before using any serious elbow grease to avoid stripping.
For removing the stripped screws I have had 100% success with this kit.
The active ingredient here is a reverse drill bit that digs into the screw head. After a few turns enough grip is established and the screw begins to turn.
