Looking for old broken R40 Keyboard - or 2nd hand working
Hello Everyone,
I dropped my laptop, a R40 2681 HSG. Well basically got all new housing bits and pieces, like LCD backcover, etc from IBM in South Africa, but my keyboard is missing 2 keys, and I am looking for anyone that have an old R40 keyboard, or a 2nd hand one, that I can buy? The keys must be in a good nick?
Or, just the "Home" and "PgUp" keys, with their little mechanism?
And secondly, anyone perhaps have a good condition CD-RW DVD-Combo Drive, FRU P/N 13N6765, ASm Part No 13N6766, for this unit as well they want to get rid of? Even if it is not working, but the front lid and sliding mechanism must be in good order?
Thanking you in advance,
MrBean.

Hello.
I have a brand new, in IBM original box, R40 keyboard. I had an R40 with problems and IBM had me try about three different keyboards. So this has been plugged in once to an R40, didn't fix problem and put back in the box for return. IBM chose not to pick it up.
I was going to put it on eBay. Available for $30 plus actual cost of shipping - you choose method.

Hello Underclocker,
I will take that off your hands then, thanx a lot!!
Only thing is, I am in South Africa, could you find out what shipping, eg FedEx would cost? It should be a very light parcel, so, should not be to much....
Once you give me the total cost, we can make a plan with payment. The website I frequent is http://www.net-forums.net/forums/index.php?, you are welcome to visit and see what person I am. I am a moderator there, been for close to 3 years now
Just so you know I am very honorable...at least that is my side of the story....lol...
But, yes, as I said, I will take the keyboard 100% for sure, and I do trust you it is in good nick.
Let me know when you have details, and we can make some plan.

Hello Everyone,
Just want to extend a big thanx to Underclocker, for the excellent service he provided to me, a stranger, 16000km away from his native USA.
He shipped the keyboard and wifi card without 2nd thought, and without having received payment from me, purely on trust.
Ed, Thanx. I received my goodies today, in the condition you promised. Typing on my new keyboard, connected via Knoppix, new wifi card, and Linksys router to the Internet. Great fun. Had to do the no1802.com, otherwise everything good!
It is people like you that gives me hope for the future
Thanx again.
Can a moderator please close this thread?

MrBean,
Thanks for the kind words and I'm very happy to have assisted in rejuvenating and upgrading an R40, I've owned and enjoyed a few.
Considering the context, this forum, and your need, trust seemed appropriate.
For the benefit of others reading this far, MrBean arranged for a peer located in the US to send payment. It worked out just fine.
Take care,
underclocker
