Well I finally ordered, and just in time as it seems these models are being phased out. Anyhow now for the loooooooooooooooong wait. Lenovo says 25 days to ship + 2 days shipping (got the fast shipping I can't wait even longer!!!) Anyhow, any other 2373M3U users out there who want to give me tips? I know baraider is out there, any others??

I'm a wannabe owner of an M3U, so when it comes, be sure to tell us. Also, since you ordered this from Lenovo and not IBM like baraider did, does it have a 7k60 harddrive?

enjoy it. I was so excited and happy when i received the m3u...

i couldn't believe i'd be that happy considering i owned, built couple of laptop and desktop.

the quality of the m3u is amazing.

while you waiting for your TP, go shopping for a sleeve and the screensaverz.....click on the link in my signature to see which one i got.

i just ordered a booq powersleeve14 , can't wait to check it out.

Shop for an extra ac adapter, dock, or replicator.

I hope it is the 7200 but its not a guarantee. there is so much conflicting info on the website and such. My actual order only says 60GB, and does not actually specify HD speed. Its ok if it turns out to be a 5400 becuase I'll probably want to update to the 7k100 if the price is not rediculous.

According to the online lookup: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=2373M3U it's a 5400RPM HD.

However, the latest TABOOK (291) says the 2373M3U comes with an "Ultra HS" i.e. 7200RPM HD.

It will be interesting to see what your unit arrives with.

I spoke with an IBM epp csr who confirmed that it was a 7200rpm drive.

well thats good news for me! The lenovo configurator tool also says its a 7200 but there are still tons of references on the site that quote it as 5400 which gets me worried.

Yes, but I don't think that they have never shipped a 60GB 5400. They have a 40GB 5400 and an 80GB 5400, but the only 60GB has been the 7200. Unless Lenovo has come up with some new drive, it should be the fast one.

there are 60gig 5400 RPM drives and 7200 RPM drives..
the M3U should have the 7200 RPM drive..

Well my laptop is waiting for me at the UPS depot tonight at 8:30. I checked my serial number, which Lenovo provided in my order status page and I found a link to the components included in the laptop. To confirm a question from above, the harddrive is FRU# 13N6897 which is HDD ASM 60GB HGST 7200RPM!!!! good news. Does anyone know which keyboard FRU# 13N9957 is? Also the RAM is 512MB PC2100 CL2.5 NP DDR SDRAM SODIMM F, is PC2100 the fastest this machine can support?

To all M3U owners, how is the Intel 2200BG wireless card working out? I've read of issues that TP owners have had with that. As such, I'm seriously considering a T43 2668-98U that has the Atheros chipset. (I can't find an affordable 14" T43 with the 7200 RPM hard drive right now.) If I were to get an M3U and if it were to experience wireless dropouts, will a driver update do the trick? As a last resort, is the Intel b/g wireless card easily replaceable (by a user like myself) with the latest IBM a/b/g II (Atheros) card? Please advise, as I cannot put off my TP purchase much longer! Thanks.

It is PC2700. That PC2100 reference is a typo/error that has been well documented on these forums.

So far I have not experianced any problems. Occasionally I get a popup saying that the wireless point connected even though I did not actually experiance a dropout, but this is very rare. I have played World of Warcraft on a dlink, linksys, and orinoco AP's and never had a dropout or loss of connection. The 2373-M3U is an amazing machine and I highly recommend it. If you find later you would rather have the atheros you can always upgrade at a reasonable price.

Well, I get the "Wireless Network Connected" message all the time when I'm at my college. I've got a Linksys WPC11 v4 (Realtek RTL8180-based card) that's held together with duct tape(!), and I never actually have a dropout (well, my college has HORRIBLE speeds through the BlueSocket thing, and they vary a lot - from slow DSL speeds, to about 300 bps - moving doesn't help, either - even if it's to a different AP that has stronger signal, which means the servers can't handle the load).

Yup, thats the message I get, however I would say it happens to me more "infrequently" than "all the time". Also I don't experiance a dropout, my guess is its just crappy windows networking.

I just got my M3U yesterday. Amazing screen (14" SXGA) and suprisingly fast. The funny thing was that I was typing on the keyboard, with the same FRU (i took the keyboard out before i knew i didnt need to). Its the one made in china, the ALPS type.

Subsequently one of the arrow keys fell off (i swear i didnt sabotage it!), and I called to get of the Thai keyboards. Check one of the other threads for the specific FRU. Happy computing!

I just have to say that i love love love my 2373M3U. It came on July8th... and ever since then we have been inseparable !

everything about this machine is perfect. seriously. i have been waiting for something to go wrong. nothing. i can not even hear when the laptop is on (i.e. no fan noises). its seriously a beautiful computer. everyone I show it to loves it. Oh and i have the thai keyboard, and the 7200 rpm drive (which is standard for this model though the website says different). I am gald that i ordered the T42 without any problems vs the T43 with all of the kinks not worked out yet. Just my opinion!

Time for a bump for team M3U, in honor of my M3U just hitting "shipped" status (five days early, I might add). Checked out the parts list and guess what? NMB (aka Thai) keyboard, Hydis LCD, and Sony battery! Obviously the battery isn't as much of a piece of good luck as the keyboard and screen, but weren't the Sanyos the more problematic "loose fitting" ones? Anyway, much thanks to the forum - particularly "ddutta" and "hoya" for a few nuggets of advice, and "kaplanfx" for being the m3u owner whose posts I read over to get the DL on the M3U. This will be my first ThinkPad; I'll let you know what I think when it gets here!

The estimated shipping date on my recently ordered 2373GVU just changed from 9/29/05 to 9/19/05. Does that mean it is really likely to ship out on 9/19 which is earlier than the original estimated ship date?

I purchased an IBM 2373M3U in Feb. '05 with an alumni discount. I'm very pleased with it. It seemed to be one of the best values in the T42 line at the time. That may not be as true now.

If I was to buy a T42 again I'd be very tempted to custom configure a CTO 2373H6U. I configured one, thru the regular Lenovo website, to be similar to a M3U and it would cost less than the current edu. price for a M3U.

I'm not sure if H6Us have a fingerprint reader or Bluetooth.

I have a 2373H6U on long order (Oct. 18 estimated ship date!? Order placed Sept. 8) and according to the invoice it does include the Bluetooth and FPR, which actually came as a surprise to me as I had not been expecting either. Excellent bang for the buck, IMO, considering that it is user configurable. I stripped it down almost to the minimum (WinXP Home, 256Mb RAM, 6 cell battery, Intel Wireless 2200, and CD/RW) and it came out to a price of $1341 for a 1.8Ghz 745 CPU, 7200rpm HD, 14" SXGA LCD w/ 64Mb Radeon 9600, and 3 year warranty.

That sounds like a good price you got. I feel I did pretty well with the 2373gvu I ordered via EPP for $1559 (and am still waiting for, ship date now 10/1). For about $200 more than you paid, I got what you got except for the FP reader (which I didnt' want), plus a 512k ram chip, ibm abg wireless mini pci card, the 128 meg Fire GL video, Win XPpro, and 9 cell battery. I think all that was worth an extra $200.
