backlight replacement service (not moniserv)

#1 Post by meeotch » Sat May 03, 2014 1:32 pm

Does anyone know of a good, fast, reasonable (I know, pick two) backlight/inverter replacement service - *besides* Moniserv/LCDparts.com?

I'm getting Ye Olde Pinkscreen creeping in from the edges, and I'll need to replace the backlight soon. Unfortunately Moniserv has done a substandard job in the past. The last time, I got my machine back with the hinge that protects the cable from being pinched hanging off the back of the machine, and brand new stripes across the screen from something that happened when removing/replacing the lcd. That was about 10 months ago, and the backlight they installed is already failing.

Anyone have experience with another vendor that they can vouch for?

If yours is a 15" UXGA screen from a T43/T43p/R52, see this: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=88991
Otherwise try forum member Jamiphar, or buy a new/used LCD.

Thanks for the reply. Yes - I've googled up info on doing the replacement myself in the past. It doesn't sound incredibly difficult, though it does sound easy to break the tube. But honestly, I don't have the time or inclination right now - I'd prefer to just 2-day express it somewhere and let them deal with it.

And it's definitely a backlight problem, not a faulty LCD. I've gone through 4-5 backlights between this and my previous Thinkpad. The original one seems to last just past the 3-year warranty, and then the replacements I've been getting from Moniserv have crapped out in less than a year.
