A20p and DVD

#1 Post by warmstrong » Fri Jun 18, 2004 10:17 pm

Can anyone tell me how to get DVD drive going in an A20p my wife uses? It's got Windows 2000 in it, but there don't seem to be any DVD drivers or a player. Anyone have some files I can have to get this going, or refer me to a location for these files? There don't seem to be any relevant files on the support page. My wife and kids are heading for Nantucket for a month (I get to join them for two weeks in July) and I though it would be nice if they could use the A20p to watch DVDs.

Thanks,
Bill Armstrong

Bill,

Stupid question, but you have a DVD drive in your TP, right? If you look at the CD drive do you see the little DVD ROM symbol? The A20p originally came with Mediamatics DVD Express. You might still have it on the hard drive. You can either buy a DVD player from Ebay (the cheapest way) such as InterVideo WinDVD, or CyberLink PowerDVD. But I guess the easiest way is to download this free DVD Player (link is from Hausman, thanks): http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Another freebie player is http://www.bsplayer.org/.

Both will play a wider variety of formats than Mediamatics and Windows Media Player. Also both are actively updated and supported.

You can get more codecs than you'll ever use, all free, at http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/
