Best 14" SXGA+ 4:3 LCD for T6x?
Best 14" SXGA+ 4:3 LCD for T6x?
I have read main thread "LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions". May be i should place this question there?
I UNDERSTAND THAT 14" 4:3 HAVE NEVER MADE IN IPS. So small visible angles is a curse for all of them. But i want to find "Best of the worst" LCD. Why? I have Frankenpad with beautiful UXGA IPS LCD. But there is a some sort of "shwabenpad" (actually it is a T61 with T60 screen, because i find better mainboard for frankenpad and returned first t61 MB to iit's donor body) have left. And i am using it from time to time. This is very interesting thinkpad - it is lighter than 15" bro. And i can place it with 9cell battery in my
suitcase (and there is a free space for other things), but 15" with 6cell battery occupies all space. And Mg screen shell is more fitted for travelling.
14" concept lives long enough from IBM era to Lenovo and proven it's usefulness, but they don't get it good screen:(
The only answer i have find - the Samsung (LTN141P4-L02) from T61 is better than Hydis (HT14P12) from T60.
I have TMD(LTD141EN9B) and samsung and my eyes say that Samsung (but LTN141P4-L04 - non-Lenovo) is more warm (yellow) and TMD is cool (blue). But the both have very small visible angles.
Have anybody tested nonLenovo LCDs in 14" T6x or may be T4x. I have searched Panelook for compatible LCDs and find ton of this. Hitachi, QDI, Toshiba.
Any experience are welcome!

I have a T60 with the Boes Hydris. After looking at the other screens I think it is stunning. Dont care about the viewing angle, if Im in front of it, it is beautiful.

Re: Best 14" SXGA+ 4:3 LCD for T6x?
The biggest problem here is the fact that none of the 14" SXGA+ panels - regardless of the manufacturer - were anything to write home about. And I'm not talking about ThinkPad LCDs, but in general.
My daughter's T60 has a TMD which I happen to like better than the Samsung on a T61p that I also have here. But that's kind of "pick your poison" type of deal. Hydis might be the best "straight on" but has the worst viewing angles IMO.
To my eyes, TMD is the least offensive one. But that's me.

In my experience Samsung is the best thinkpads' 4:3 TN panels, in both terms of contrast and viewing angle.
My brother's T60 has 14.1" Samsung SXGA+ LCD and it looks beauty enough, may be better than my VERY OLD T42p's IDTech UXGA.
I myself owned a X61 with 12.1" Samsung XGA and modded it to AFFS SXGA+ only because of higher resolution offered by the SXGA+ one.

Another vote for the Samsung. I had it in my t43p, and T60. Nice screen, not great view angle but it has nice brightness and color.
I do miss the 14.1" LG widescreen in my z61t... That was an amazing screen, too bad LG didn't make a 4:3.
Anyone have any input on the Toshiba 1400x1050 screen?

If you're referring to ones used in T60/p, that's my favourite.kenzking wrote:Anyone have any input on the Toshiba 1400x1050 screen?
TMD = Toshiba.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but the TMD display is absolutely terrible. My T60p came with a Samsung, but the lamp in it died so I swapped it. The TMD's white isn't white, it's cream-colored. The viewing angles are also worse than the Samsung. The only good thing about the TMD panel is it's viewable in direct sunlight somehow.

Re: Best 14" SXGA+ 4:3 LCD for T6x?
I have a wealth (like 8+) of 14.1" SXGA+ displays, mostly Samsung and Hydis. I also have a Lenovo Y580, a Thinkpad T430s, and owned a T420 about a year ago. The newer TN panels SUCK. If you are worried about viewing angles for Thinkpad SXGA+ panels, I would not worry at all. It's only because today's PC market has dropped to such a low point, that people worry about such things. The viewing angles on these older Hydis and Samsung panels are much better than on a low to midrange laptop today.
In general, the Hydis SXGA+ panels are a little warmer and a little brighter.
However, the Samsung SXGA+ panels are a little blue-er and a little whiter. In my experience, they don't last as long.
Good luck!

Lots of thinkpads (10+) but I would never be so stupid as to list them all because that would spam everybody's searches and people who *do* try to list them all would be jerks.
