W520: Lenovo System Update – missing drivers.

#1 Post by Sleepy664 » Wed May 21, 2014 7:47 am

Hello,

I've reinstalled my machine with a clean Windows 7 DVD (I hate that bloatware) but Lenovo System Update is now missing some drivers – Access Connections, Power Manager and related stuff. It was working fine before when I did the previous install.

Is it a fault on my side, or does LSU just behave strangely sometimes?

Those aren't drivers, but utilities.

I never bothered to install Lenovo System Update in the first place.

OK, but those utilities are missing because of missing Power Management Driver... :) Also, WLAN driver is missing. And I like the LSU...at least when it's working :(

You can always install those manually. System update is not what it used to be or should be. It worked OK on older machines and Win 7 but pretty useless for Win 8.

Yep, I installed WLAN and PMD manually, but my OCD drives me mad...

Week ago I've contacted Lenovo, they sounded very thankful saying they'll look into it, but nothing changed. I guess they don't care.

You mean the OSD?

Did you check the (rather slow these days :x ) Driver matrix yet?

(not sure if that works)

No, I've meant my OCD. OCD like...this:

Yep, I've got my WLAN, PMD and modem ( ) drivers from there. The rest I've intalled through LSU and it works fine. But still...LSU was working perfectly just a few weeks ago when my "new" W520 arrived. Stupid Lenovo.

(Also, LSU doesn't detect the Bluetooth adaptor until it is switched on. And it can not be switched on until it's installed. Funny. So when I first got the machine, I didn't even knew it had a Bluetooth... :D )

Yesterday I was playing with my OS and I've messed it up. No big deal, I've got my stuff organised so reinstall doesn't really matter to me. And guess what – LSU found all but the modem drivers. Good :) There is a new WLAN driver, so I guess once upon a time they add a new driver and something goes wrong...or they add a new driver and the thing gets fixed.
