Help-W510`s screen went black.

#1 Post by qrio » Wed May 21, 2014 2:38 pm

Hello Mates.

My W510`s screen went black today and I started to panic because the laptop is showing/working normally via VGA external display(Win7x64)

The laptop`s screen was flickering the day before yesterday while browsing Youtube videos.

So I turned the machine off, removed the battery and the issue disappeared while on AC.

And today when I turned it on the display stays like this http://s15.postimg.org/qxj4wcql7/21052014336.jpg

Still has the backlight but no Desktop- nothing.

I have just updated to the latest Nvidia drivers but it didn`t help.

Alos wanted to do http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Ed ... es-blank-o... but I don`t have access to the laptop`s display settings- http://s29.postimg.org/c2taj12wn/Untitled.jpg ...

Today when I turned on the machine the display lit up and is working fine. So I immediately changed the refresh rate to 50 Hz.

Could it be Power manager conflict- I can take screenshots of the settings any time if necessary...

Huh, that looks strange, could this be a bad connection in the display cable?

No idea, but I`m so afraid that this can happen again and here is nobody to help me get it open and maybe repaired...

I don't think the problem you are having, where the display works, but the OS doesn't detect what kind of display it is, happens unless there is some sort of hardware problem.
The blackscreen could be what happens the the connection is severed completely.

I'd have someone look at it, if it's a cable problem, it should be easy to diagnose for someone who is comfortable taking it apart.
