#1 Post by chbone » Thu May 19, 2005 10:21 am

Folks,

Yesterday, I was advised to change my order. Today, the price is up!!!!
My order has been delayed for one month. The price of My CTO model is $1139 when I buy it, now the price is changed to $1,349.00. I have noticed the 2687EJU is up too.

Intersting, they are trying to help me or trick me??

CTO

How do you go about creating a CTO model?

Do you go to the IBM TP website and create it there. It seems like your getting a really good deal on a TP you created, I would like to do the same.

thanks.

How the heck are you getting that CTO so cheap? The bare chassis itself with no upgrades costs $1100!

Where can you buy this? What is your part number? You have to call to order?

Now, if you log in IBM personal webpage, you can buy nothing!

From the edu channel:

The part number: 2687E4U

I ordered it on line.

Your account is related to the your initial group. If you want to find and order, just create a new account at the eduaction channel. Otherwise, you will be directed to the initial homepage you have created your account.

Try it!

The Lenovo/IBM website is really driving me nuts:

1. I go to the education site, registered an account, I can log in and change my information.

2. Then I selected the 2687E4U with some options, the total is arount 2000.

3. And I click the checkout, it prompts me username and password, I type my account user name and password in step 1, woops, it says no such account!

4. I tried my user name and password for IBM personal web page, then it passed! But all the price becomes un-discounted! Which is 10% more.

I am going to call IBM on Monday, this is really frustrating!

By the way, will the open bay model take longer to ship than those preconfigured model?

Do you have a legitimate claim to use the educational discount?

I am a full time graduate student, so I think I can use the edu discount.

I am just not sure about "a legitimate claim", what does it mean exactly?

Though strange, the price didn't go up to normal, non-discounted price when I checked out today.

So I did it! I ordered the 2687E4U with necessary options such as 60G 7200RPM HD, 9 Cell Battery, IBM a/b/g Wireless, CDRW/DVD Combo. Along with some crap I don't need but no choice: Windows XP Home, 256M RAM. But still it is good deal. The estimated shipping date shown now is June 22, I know this is 100% not accurate, just wait I guess.

Thanks for all your guys' help, it really helped! :P

I tried entering 2687E4U today from the educational site, and searching for that as a part number gave me no results.

Is there a listing for CTO options for the educational site? If so, where is it?

The way the site reads, anyone that attends college, or who has ever attended a college (alumni) is entitled. That would seem to pretty much open Educational pricing up to just about everyone.

I am assuming that faculty/staff pricing is lower, but I have no idea.

Whether that is how it was intended or not, I am not sure.

The only requirement I see is that you have to use your @<white-listed-name>.edu email account to sign up. Then again, it may not be whitelisted, and only checked for .edu, but there's some schools that unfortunately still use other TLDs for their domain name.

I tried signing up with my personal email and it rejected it. Had to use my college email address, which may get revoked by policy of the university after I graduate.

That's funny.
I had no such issues creating an account at that educational site.
I used one of my "free-mail" accounts, and it worked first time.
Yes, I am entitled to use the site and discounts.
