Best type of glue to repair lid?
Best type of glue to repair lid?
My lid already had a repaired / loosened chip when I bought it. Picture is from eBay seller, I circled the piece that came loose. What is the best type of glue to use on the lid?

Crazy glue or some epoxy stuff? TIA

---I think I will look for a good lid for my R61. Seems to be about same cost for a 14" for mine as for that 15" you linked. I'll just take my time and find a good one on eBay.jronald wrote:Correct way to fix the lid.

Re: Best type of glue to repair lid?
I have found no "good" glue that will hold on the lids. That said a "good" glue is roughly half the cost of the replacement part. Given the wear and tear, your best bet is to rplace the lid.

I'd figure there would be JB weld for plastics but it may leave something ugly for cosmetics.
I'd say crazy glue and some vinyl wrap if its still ugly.
Heck, seeing how plastidip works on cars, I've been thinking of refurbishing my paint chipped 770X.

--If you look at the picture I posted, the seller or the original owner had already used some crazy glue? to attach the little piece. But since its a spot that is bound to be hit, it was only a matter of time that the piece fell off. Just glad my cat didn't eat it!jronald wrote:I have found no "good" glue that will hold on the lids. That said a "good" glue is roughly half the cost of the replacement part. Like i said, I'll just wait for a nice one or if by some miracle a parts one if it happens to have the 1440x900 screen.

Patch the thing up with glue you have on hand, and check Feebay once a week.
When I was Refurbing for free, I routinely assembled entire machines for $30.00. I bought crap as I found it, then sat on parts till I had enough. This was a few years ago, and they were T30's, R40's and R50/51's. Now T60's seem to be the sweet spot. I have picked up T60p MoBos for under $20.00 USD lately.

Re: Best type of glue to repair lid?
--Actually my R61 was a pretty good bargain. I paid $50 USD for the laptop with original 80GB HD (Just wiped it and re-installed OS). Usually at that price you get the laptops with the hard drive and hard drive holder removed. Pretty much the only thing it had as a fault was the little piece that had already been glued back and the fact that people seem to prefer the T-series.jronald wrote:Patch the thing up with glue you have on hand, and check Feebay once a week.

Does a T61 use the same top lid as my R61? I haven't yet been looking for lids. I have the original 1GB of RAM that came with my R61, so maybe I'll get a part computer and not just buy the lid. All I've done so far is rumage through my brother's workshop to find a glue for the loose piece.

Re: Best type of glue to repair lid?
I did a lid swap, R61 had a bad screen. I wanted to see if a T61 could fit, which it did. At least with the 14" model.
So I have the thicker R61 base with a T61 lid/clear plate. Kinda weird if you ask me.
WXGA models they were, nothing fancy

Re: Best type of glue to repair lid?
My old R60 has had a hairline crack on the screen lid for almost seven years. Almost as soon as I noticed the crack, I welded it shut with Gorilla Glue and its been fine since. It may be a little raised and amber colored, but the crack has never gotten larger in all this time!
