390X CPU upgrade

#1 Post by wogeboy » Thu May 19, 2005 12:33 pm

Hi all:
Not sure if this is the right forum or not for my 390X.
I have a 2626H0U w/ a P3 450mhz cpu. Anyone know what CPU I can top out at? (I imagine it is a MMC2 )
Thanks!
dcr

I'm not sure if the CPU is on a module or if it's soldiered down. Why don't you find the hardware maintenance manual (listed somewhere on the foum's FAQ) and look through it, that should have all the information you'll need.

I do have the manual, but it lists a 500mhz as the highest available at time of manufacture.
The CPU looks to be in a module form (MMC2)..I was curious if anyone has put a higher rated cpu (600 etc..) into the 390X and if it in fact worked...
thanks for reply

The processor module is the MMC2. I'm looking at trying a 650mhz processor in my 390X if the seller ever gets it out to me. Since the 390X doesn't support speedstep it's only going to show up at 500mhz. Going to have to modify the processor card to get the higher multiplier. Should be interesting.

I actually stumbled across this forum looking for the same type of information.

While on the topic of upgrading these laptops anybody know what the difference is between the BT3 and BT3.5 motherboards in these laptops? I have a spare board that is good that is labeled as a BT3.5. If there is some advantage to running the 3.5 board I may take the time to swap it in mine.
