Samsung display panels

#1 Post by rssb » Tue Jun 03, 2014 3:10 pm

Has anyone tried to install LTN140KT08-801 on a T420 / T430 ,

The specs on this seem to be better than the LTN140KT03-401 in terms of brightness 300 nits. Also the connector seems to be in the right place, as opposed to the X1 carbon panel

If going with a non lenovo panel, is any EDID change required.

I'd verify that the pinouts are identical before even thinking about purchasing one. No knowledge on my end whether they are or not.

Besides the above advice. Personally I'm not a big fan of Samsung laptop LCDs. Make sure wherever you get it from have a good return policy.

Thank you George and Cigarguy.

The connector on this says 40-pin LVDS 2 CH 6-bit, IPEX connector, specs are here.

Yes the Samsung panels are not that good, as they used be, also they seem to use some haze factor of 25%
The last good Samsung screen I have seen is was 14.1" SXGA+ , the image was good and colors we vibrant, without looking faded or washed away. There are some other manufacturers CHMEI or INNOLUX, who have similar specs

Even the T410s Samsung Panel is better than LTN140KT03 ( which is used on 420's and 430's ). Unable to find connector specification for the LTN140KT03.

I've order a 1600 X 900 (WXGA+) screen to replace my crappy stock T420 XGA screen November of 2013. I requested and got an LG-Phillips LED screen. I'm quite happy with it. It was a straight forward simple swap. I did have to get a new monitor cable from eBay. Just follow the maintenance manual.

Ok, but does this LG-Phillips one have the screen door effect like the AUO tronics, the samsung LTN140KT03 does not have screen door effect, but it is faded and bluish color.

I have seen or used only Samsung one on a T410s , the LTN141BT08, seems to be good, no complains ( i.e. screen door effect or poor colors)
Earlier models / revisions seem to have a problem with some connectivity

Once fixed or replaced with a fixed part, it seems OK so far ( have been using it for 2 years).
