Favorite Bands / artists
It's been a long time since I saw anyone discussing some of their favorite bands to listen to. So I will start
Pink Floyd
Faith and the Muse
Nightwish
Metallica
Soul Coughing
Def Leapord
Rob Zombie
Loreena McKennit
Frank Sinatra
Neil Diamond
Enya
The Xx
I've been on a huge Xx and Nightwish kick lately. Love that group so much.

Re: Favorite Bands / artists
Favorite bands.. A little hard to tell, as I have a lot of music. When I was a kid, during the 80's, I loved the heavy metal bands. The big love has faded, but they are still among my favorites:
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Metallica
Dio
Queensryche
Of more recent music, and timeless favorites, I will list the following:
Pink Floyd
Chris Rea
Kent (A swedish band you might not heard about, check them out)
Tori Amos
Clannad
Marillion
A strange collection, and some might be forgotten. I actually have most of Nightwish's older stuff, while Tarja was still the vocalist, but I haven't listened much to the newer stuff.

My "all time" list would be *way* too long...so here's just the stuff that I've been listening to very recently, not in any particular order...

Jerry Cantrell
John Martyn
Atomic Rooster
Freddie Hubbard
Breaking Benjamin
Richard Thompson

Re: Favorite Bands / artists
I like listening to many different songs from many different artists, and my music taste is quite mixed. But I'll put down some of my absolute favorite bands:
Muse
The Beach Boys
Billy Talent
Grant Kirkhope
Deadmau5
Goldfish
Gorillaz
Incubus
Savant
Johnny Cash
Lady Gaga
MGMT
The Police
Radiohead
Skrillex
Sugar Ray
Yes. My taste of music is very intermixed, as you can tell. But these are bands that I couldn't do without, if there was some sort of embargo on music listening.

There are a lot of excellent bands listed here.
Glad to see a lot of my fellow Thinkpadder's have such a varied, eclectic taste in musical genre's.
I recently have been listening to a lot of Nightwish and really falling in love with them.

At the minute I'm listening to First Aid Kit, a Swedish group who are a little bit folk-ey.
But I have very eclectic taste, a bit of Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, but I also like finding new bands too.

Re: Favorite Bands / artists
I haven't actually listened to the album "Your Dead" yet, and the title is a bit of a put-off, but listening to the review on NPR and hearing some clips in the review has me interested.
On a more conventional note, Brazilian singer Flora Purim has always been one of my favorites. I also like listening to: The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Emerson Lake and Palmer, The Doors, and many others.

The foliage was just starting to turn and occasionally blazing autumnal colors burst through the morning fog. As if by cosmic design, "Flying Lotus" provided a perfect soundtrack to complement the leaves' own spectacular passage into death. The shifting moments of visual and musical beauty and mystery seemed completely in sync and I didn't want either the drive or the album to end. Somehow, in listening to "You're Dead," I felt incredibly alive.
