R60 CPU Upgrade

Is there any discernible benefit to upgrade from a T2400 to a T7200, T7400 or T7600?

Depends on what you're doing, but most likely not. A SSD is likely a better upgrade.

The T7xxx series have a higher cache than the T5xxx series, and are 64 bit, compared to your 32 bit T2400.

The clock speeds have a insignificant performance impact. If you need the 300mhz clock increase from the T7200 to the T7600, you need to find a more recent computer.
That said the architecture improvement from your T2400 will make a significant performance boost.

Price for performance-wise, the T7200 is likely the best option, and can be had off ebay for less than $20 most of the time.

It's not a bad time to upgrade to a T7600 even though it won't make a huge difference for most people. For some reason, ebay prices for the T7600 are about half the cost of a T7400.

In the last week, I've spent $23 total and have 3 T7200 for my efforts. I think that's a pretty good bang for the buck upgrade.

Each of my three T7600 cost me approx $70 in 2012 and 2013, but I am in the UK and prices are higher here for IBM and Intel related stuff. I find they run cool enough and perform very well, plus along with a nice Intel SSD drive these old 60 and 61 series machines really whizz along nicely (I have three Z61p and one of the X60s and X61s and G40).

The "60" Series machines overall have been excellent in their performance and longevity! With the exception of myself (X300/301), we were all on that series until our recent upgrade cycle. And even then, you could almost call the T500/400 that replaced the T61/X61 to be an extension with similar processors, batteries etc. The only exception being the DDR3 RAM. I agree that they all seem to get a lot out of an upgrade to SSDs. It was the first generation of machines where I put SSDs into them across the board. I still keep one lone T60p around as a loner/backup computer.

I have two *60 series units running 24/7/365, used by the younger generation - and in all fairness, for anything short of gaming/heavy video rendering/number crunching - they are still perfectly adequate...both of them sport T7*** CPUs, 3GB RAM and a SSD, running W7 Pro 32...
