R51 Intermittent Touchpad

#1 Post by TRS-80 » Fri Jun 13, 2014 9:07 am

I opened my R51 this morning to a missing nipple mouse. No idea where it went. Looking for a replacement, but before that even I have a more immediate issue. The touch pad (which I never use) is not working very well. It only works maybe half or less of the time. If I touch it very lightly, it seems to work a little better. But that could be my imagination. I tried updating drivers, Win XP says I have the latest ones already. Not sure what else to do, but this is maddening. Anyone heard or experienced anything like this? I was hoping some driver/software issue but afraid it might be hardware. I tried to clean the touch pad, thought maybe some finger oil or dirt or something might be causing it, but that didn't help.

In the meantime, trying to recall all keyboard shortcuts for Windows... Aaaaaarrrrgghhh!! :(
Maintning and upgrading a few aT4x/R5x on the cheap! :) They are truck mounted in my landscape company. I have some PCs and Android devices as well.

Try re-seating the touchpad connector to see if that fixes the issue. Maybe it got loose overtime?

I will try that, as soon as I have time to crack open the case. In the meantime, I just picked up a cheap mouse locally. But it's such a habit, I keep reaching for the nipple mouse in the middle of the keyboard. lol

What are those nipples actually called? I don't imagine googling "nipple mouse" will yield any results where I could order some. In fact, who knows what sort of results that might yield, on the internet. lol

EDIT: Apparently, I am not the only one unsure of what to call it. This was actually the top result when searching for "nipple mouse" (yes, I couldn't resist, lol):
