T43 1871 - Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG

#1 Post by CeeBee » Sat Jun 14, 2014 3:54 am

Running Windows 7 w/ 2GB RAM. The 7kwv50ww.exe package (Vista) installs drivers and utility software for Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG. I installed both, but, later removed the utility software as it had installed two services/processes. Need to keep the CPU/RAM footprint down...

What am I missing out on, if anything? Someone out there who used the Intel/PROSet Wireless apps and found them useful?

If it works for you without the ProSet, you won't be missing anything. In Vista/XP it's pretty worthless, in XP it actually got many machines to connect wirelessly for me when they otherwise wouldn't.

Never took the time to work with the PROSet Wireless software, so I don't know what I'll be missing. The one application, I think, concerned logging only and the other wireless diagnostics and error fixes. The latter may be useful sometimes, but, I could install the stuff temporarily in case of need, I suppose.

The PROSet Wireless drivers, however, fixed a connection problem I had. Works fine with Access Connection and the rest so I'm okay for now. If I recall correctly, the W7 setup provided a Microsoft driver for the wireless, but, I could be wrong...

Thanks.
