X301 Integrated camera retrofit

#1 Post by Seweryn » Wed Jun 18, 2014 2:01 pm

A quick question Guys.

Is the screen bezel in the X301 wired up for the factory web cam, i.e. if the machine comes from the factory without the webcam (but it is an option in this model), is it just a matter of installing it in, or do you need the dedicated cables or other parts as well?

Cheers.

I've had more than twenty x301 machines and have never seen one that didn't have a webcam.

Suppose it might have been possible with a CTO that was to be used in a secure location.
If that's the case, the BIOS may have been modified to prevent a camera from being detected.

The camera is connected via the LCD cable and there is only one in the HMM so you would probably not need the cable.
You would only need the integrated camera card and possibly the plastic plate for the bezel if the current one doesn't have a small, clear lens hole.

Thank you.

It looks like my machine is a rare one so ;). I may try to get the webcam and fit it in, if I decide to keep the machine for longer.
