T41p to X40 WOW

#1 Post by Orbitz » Fri May 20, 2005 3:10 pm

Finally got my hands on an X40 and was extremely impressed. This thing is SMALL but the keyboard is as good as they get. I was stunned when I first held it...

Coming from a T41p, I was a VERY concened I might really notice how slow the 1.2 proc was...not to mention the HD or video performance on the X40. I am not and expert by any means but I can say the X40 is easily 2 times as fast as I had myself believing it would be. Boot up, MS Office apps and DVD's all run as fast as my T41p seemed to run things...I am sure it is slower but not near enough for me to notice it for regular activites.

Overall, I don't think it feels quite as "tank" like as the T4x but certainly plenty tough to live up the the IBM rep. Size wise, I am so happy I moved from the T41p to the X4x profile I may need surgery to get the smile off my face :) Not at all a complait about the T4x series as it was an awesome machine...but for hauling around everywhere with me I just met my new best friend!

Glad you like it. I heard everyone saying it was slow or they had slow boot ups. But when I got mine I thought it was quite fast! It will handle any office/web surfing/ or other productivity apps you throw at it. I love being able to take it anywhere with out feeling it in my bag. Great size and power combo :D

People are always shocked at the stats, size and how light it is. My buddy has i think its a dell 700m and that thing is loud when he turns it on. My x40 is amazingly quite. I'll have to see a doctor about my smile as well hehe

For anyone interested, I wanted to see how much battery time I got running a DVD off the HD with both the 4 cell and 8 cell batteries. The 4 cell got exactly 1:29:00 when it hit 10% battery left. DVD's look pretty good btw :)

dang orbitz, while i know i wont be constantly accessing the hd, that makes me wish we had better batteries instead of laptops that would throttle back to make up for battery life.

i guess meh overall.

edit: dam, 141$ for an 8 cell battery, that sucks.
