12.1" SXGA+ LCD source found
12.1" SXGA+ LCD source found
Confirmed: The SXGA+ display from the Motion Computing LE 1700 / T006 is the same Boe-Hydis SXGA+ IPS screen HV121P01 as the X61 has.
Getting the 12.1" SXGA+ IPS display found in the X61 tablet is pretty tough to do for those aspiring to install one in an X61.
I've stumbled across this unit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motion-Computin ... 5b01975c64
From looking at its spec sheet, the Motion Computing LE1700 with the SXGA+ screen appears to be equipped with an IPS display. I can't imagine it's any other model than the Boe-Hydis one found in the X61 Tablet. After all, the characteristic bubble between the digitizer and LCD is forming in the tablet featured in that auction's photo. So, I've purchased it for a mere $38, computer and all.
I will take it apart and see about interfacing it with an X61. Hopefully the process will be much the same as we've already come to expect. I will have to solder an adapter cable and do some machining to get it to fit, but I expected that any way. If this works then it'll be a great source for suitable SXGA+ LCDs for an X61. I'm sure many other SXGA+ tablets of the era will have similar screens available too.

At first glance it looks like all of these units are equipped with SXGA+ displays and are available for reasonable prices. Great find!

Great find indeed. I am aware of two more with SXGA+ screens but non-IPS: Toshiba Portege M200 and Fujitsu T4010 (not all models).

Portege M200 screen will not work. 30 pin to 40 pin adapters exist but dual channel LVDS is not compatible with single channel.ilakast wrote:Great find indeed. I am aware of two more with SXGA+ screens but non-IPS: Toshiba Portege M200 and Fujitsu T4010 (not all models).

Re: 12.1" SXGA+ LCD source found
I hope the one from the LE1700 I ordered is single-channel... I don't see why they would even go for dual channel here in the first place.85101 wrote:Portege M200 screen will not work. 30 pin to 40 pin adapters exist but dual channel LVDS is not compatible with single channel.ilakast wrote:Great find indeed. Re: 12.1" SXGA+ LCD source found
I got my LE1700 today. I ripped it apart and confirmed it has the Boe-Hydis HV121P01-101 SXGA+ LCD in it. That means it's also IPS, which is my first concern over resolution.
The next step is to remove the nasty digitizer glue, as it has begun to run a little the same way the X61t one does (eew). This is the first time I've dealt with it, it's pretty nasty

Good luck then! I recall reading a post where RBS got a "quick and clean" method to get rid of the goo, I'd send him a PM if I were you...

I sold the machine outside the forum, haven't had any complaints, so I guess it remained OK.

I don't understand what you plan to do with a display with bubble problems.
Are you going to remove the glass somehow?

The plan is to completely remove the glass and adhesive, and use it as a normal display in an X61. I have no use for a tablet, so the touch features are something I will not miss at all.bit_twiddler wrote:I don't understand what you plan to do with a display with bubble problems.

RBS, I'm glad to hear you had a reasonable time getting the goo off. I suppose you had to be pretty careful with the alcohol, though - any amount of it in the backlight and it's ruined. It seeps between the layers with quick capillary action, so keeping them separate is important. I'll have to grab some paper towels and have a go with the alcohol.
This goo stuff is the worst adhesive I've ever touched. It really doesn't want to come off of your hands!

Re: 12.1" SXGA+ LCD source found
Hi!
Just my few words to this...
not every LE1700 has such an high resolution display.....for example....this one......http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... TQ:DE:1123, i questioned the dealer if it has the resolution of 1400x1050.....hasn't such an display, because the answer was, no, this machine has normal resolution 1024x768. So this is going to be the same russian roulette like this search for an X60t display in 1400x1050.
Can anyone say which types of x60t came with high resolution?
Kindly special regards,
Pandora

Re: 12.1" SXGA+ LCD source found
I've been trying to get this glass cover off, and it's been a real pain. You can see one corner where I got too enthusiastic and it cracked the front glass. It's risky!
http://i.imgur.com/Tes2dca.jpg
I've had some more luck on this one corner, but the glue has a very low viscosity and really does not want to budge. This glue is relentless and is very tough to remove from anything, even your own skin. If anyone has any additional tips, It'd be great here. I've had to resort to dumping isopropy alcohol in there to get anywhere, so I'm sure the backlight is totally screwed at this point. My plan was to transfer the LCD into the assembly of the original XGA LCD I had, so this isn't a big deal, but it's an irritation surely.
Mod edit: picture too large, changed into link. Please read Forum Rules, Section 5.
