SOLD!U.S. built T41, SXGA+, exceptional, *PICS*

#1 Post by ajkula66 » Sun Jul 20, 2014 10:56 am

the basics:

ThinkPad T41 (2373-235)

Based on 2373-3HU:
P M 1.6GHz...............................................now PM 745 (1.8GHz Dothan, 2MB L2 cache)
1GB RAM
60GB 5400rpm HDD.....................................now 100GB/5400rpm*
14.1 SXGA+(1400X1050) TFT LCD
32MB ATI Radeon 9000
16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD
IBM (Atheros) ABG wireless card
Modem(CDC)
1GB Ethernet(LOM)
UltraNav
Secure Chip
6 cell Li-Ion battery in "green"
WinXP Pro COA
Genuine IBM 72W AC adapter included

In the world of Classic Cars, this one would be classified as an "exceptional barn find". Sure, there is some wear/scratches on the lid and bottom, but the overall condition of the unit is nothing short of excellent, given its vintage.

What makes this once-hi-end T41 an ever more interesting unit is the fact that it's an U.S. built machine, sporting the following tag on the bottom:
"Assembled in the U.S. of U.S. and non-U.S. components"
If you ever wanted to own a truly nice and well-kept T41 with a flawless SXGA+ LCD, this one should grab your attention. Yesterday.

I've upgraded the CPU to PM 745, cleaned/re-pasted the heatsink, installed the IBM (Atheros-chipped) a/b/g wireless card and tested the machine thoroughly against all the ailments that the T4x generation is known for. Needless to say, this oldtimer is as healthy as these will come nowadays, while being way prettier than most.

Code: Select all

*The machine is currently running XP Pro installed from the original recovery media. You can also have it with a blank HDD, or a non-PAE Linux distro of your choice.
I'll include the appropriate BlueTooth CDC card, you'll have to install it yourself (there is a third antenna reserved for it) as well as obtain a proper clear plate.

Hey George, for what its worth.......
There is a Zorin, rework that PAE has been added to. Found it on Sourceforge the other evening.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/zorin62nonpae/
It has come up and run fine on everything I have tried it on of that vintage.
Updates were significant each time, around 300mb, down loaded and installed over 2 full days of HDD thrashing, but it settled down just fine afterwards.

YMMV
