I started a thread about this not too long ago. Hopefully it'll help. I'm looking for the same thing (15" though)

Today I received a WaterField Sleevecase (Size 15) for my T43 (with 15" screen). I am feeling rather satisfied and generous at the moment, so I have posted some photos to show the excellent snug fit that this sleevecase provides with either a 6-Cell Regular and a 9-Cell Extended Battery. The quality is great, the fit is glovelike, and the closing tab is secure.
The pictures are posted at http://bemorecreative.com/sleevecase.htm
I assume that the fit would be equally excellent for for a Thinkpad with a 14" screen if you purchase the Size 14 version of this sleevecase.
Buy it. Enjoy it! http://www.sfbags.com
Regards,
FRANK

for me, i would prefer a leather sleeve case..
more importantly, what is the inside lined with..??
a soft material that will not scratch or abrade the surface of the thinkpad..?
or neoprene..?
and is the interior devoid of anything like a button or zipper where it might scratch a thinkpads finish..?
thanks..

I support baertracks fully. Been using the Sleevecase for several months now and it is very handy, protective despite its low profile and just plain looks cool, unlike a laptop bag. Plus, it fits into a backpack.

Sorry, forgot to add. It is lined with very soft material like plush, and has a thick layer of neoprene between it and the outer cordura shell. No protruding plastics or metal elements whatsoever, so the Thinkpad is safe.

Bill,
Do you recommend/sell a particular sleeve for a 14.1 inch T42. My M3U is on the UPS delivery truck as I type this and I will be wanting to get a sleeve. I have a leather knapsack type briefcase that is quite large and would accomadate a sleeve nicely I think.
Thanks for running a great site,

If i just buy a sleeve, is it well protected enough to throw it into a normal backpack and go. Or is it recomended that i buy a backpack specifically designed to keep the ThinkPad well cushioned and protected?

I find the Waterfield's ridiculously overpriced.
How are the Booq cases, specificly for a 14.1" with a 9cell, is it snug? I checked the measurements of the compartment - 12.7 x 10.2 x 1.35 - the width, 10.2, doesn't seem to be enough with the 9 cell, anyone confirm, deny or add?
Thanks

As I remember, the Booq will not fit a 9 cell, where the Waterfield will.
As for the Waterfield price, yes, it is certainly high dollar, but I compared it to several here in town such as the Marware, and there was just no comparison whatsoever. The materials are really top-quality, and the company is first rate.

Aye,
What's really shifted my opinion is that it's built in the US, didn't know that before... for that alone Im willing to give it a chance, that and a day of looking over their product online.. it actually is nice to look at.

Like many others that have posted on this thread I too love my Waterfield sleeve and although it is a tad pricey the service is great and I would say that it is the most protective sleeve I've seen for a laptop.
Also since they updated their website its really easy to figure out the best fit for the 15-inch and 9-cell.
One other thing I'll add is that I got the flap on my case. The flap keeps stuff out of the case when I put it into my backpack and the case still looks great.
Hope this helps
Matt

So for a 14.1" with a 9cell I should go with a Waterfield 15" size sleeve, right? Just want to make sure... I assume Waterfield's 14" is too small with the battery... or is it snug and about right?

Just go by the Waterfield sizes on their chart:
Size 11 for horizontal orientation, for 14.1" with standard or extended battery (works for both in horizontal orientation.)
Size 11 for vertical orientation with standard battery.
Size 15 for vertical orientation with extended battery.
I think that since the sleeve opening is smaller in vertical orientation, that you need a larger size to be able to slide the notebook in easily with the extended battery. In horizontal orientation it is not needed.
The horizontal orientation is a PERFECT fit, the vertical orientation is probably a hair more loose with the larger size.
I got the horizontal size 11 with all the bells and whistles: flap, strap, piggyback for T42/43 with standard or extended battery.
(after taking out a small second mortgage!)
Or, call them, they are really terrific.

Im convinced now.. they're very stylish and professional... and light, perfect match for a thinkpad.
Last question, I think.. how durable is the velcro? Do you think it'll last it's time as a consistent carrying sleeve? Do you they offer replacement velcro? I couldn't find their warranty info...
Other than that.. I think Im gonna grab a sleeve..

The other day I was carrying my laptop around DC, and, just for fun, tried a "short fold" when closing the velcro flap in order to create a loop at the top for my finger to carry it. Note: This is probably NOT recommended or part of the warranty!!!.
I then inserted my finger in the loop and bounced it a couple of times to test the strength of the velcro bond. I could not get the velcro to release. I then tried jarring and shaking it quite vigorously and the velcro still held tight. I was amazed (and quite pleased).

I've been using a SleeveCase with my 3 year old Fujitsu S6010 notebook and the SleeveCase still in almost new condition. Though I only really used it a lot when I was still going to school, where I carried it in my backpack for at least 3 times a week for 2 years. Now, I've got a size 6 vertical for my T42 2378FVU, that fits perfectly with the standard battery and is a pretty tight fit with the extended battery (bought it before they added their new sizes). Not sure how the new sizes are in comparison to the 6 though. If you're not sure about anything, feel free to contact them (Gary) as they're really friendly. They'll also exchange them if the sizing's wrong (at least he did with a stock [no addons] SleeveCase).

I must say I think their site doesn't their product justice. I hung on whether or not to get one, expecially at their price, for a number of days... and wow am I glad I bought it. The ballistic or whatever material it's made of, Im lazy right now, is of a top quality and isn't depicted on their site well. I also say the same for the exterior, very rugged - and the D rings too, seems like it will last forever.
Very satisfied.

a question about the waterfields...
if you have any sort of pcmcia card that stuck out , will the case mold to it or would you have to take the card out?
(the card i am thinking about is this, the black part sticks out)

i'm thinking i'd probably have to remove it huh.

The cards are inserted on the side of the system, correct? Then yes, the card would have to be taken out, it is very snug with my system. However, if you have a 9 cell battery that physically extends out at the back, the flap of the sleeve can compensate for the extra inches, or the battery can go in the piggy back - just like a card can.xcoldricex wrote:a question about the waterfields...

I would think that with the vertical waterfields (as opposed to the horizontals) you could put the laptop in with the card sticking out the top of the bag.
Would the flap still close over that reasonably well? Personally I don't think that's the bets way to protect it all but I think that might be doable.

That was my original thought. I was too tired go into detail earlier. My suggestion is to call their toll free number and inquire.emorphien wrote:I would think that with the vertical waterfields (as opposed to the horizontals) you could put the laptop in with the card sticking out the top of the bag.

I think the flap will ultimately close over it very well, as does the horizontal with my battery. It's like their site says or alludes to, the difference is preferential, ie which bag do you plan on puting it in; briefcase, backpack.. etc.
Cheers
