QUESTION: Purpose of Advanced Dock Fan System...

This question just occurred to me recently. What is the purpose of the fans in the Advanced Dock? I've been looking back at my previous post about increasing Advanced Dock Fan Speed and jcvjcvjcvjcv made a good point about it would make no difference. So I just thought, what's the point of having those fan/s in the advanced dock if they don't cool the Thinkpad? I may be confused. I'm just trying to clear up the confusion...

My assumption is that the fan is trying to keep the integrated power supply and any optional PCI Express interface card cool.
