T440 USB3 problem

#1 Post by hhmcsv » Tue Aug 19, 2014 7:27 am

My new T440 has only USB3-ports. And I am trying to use a DVB-T-tuner (Terratec H7) which was working fine on my previous T60, but is crashing (BSOD, kernel security check failure) on the T440. Both are running Win 8.1.
I suspect, that the reason is the USB3-ports. Even if I connect with a Basic Dock which has USB2-ports, the fault is the same.
Any clues on how to resolve this? Can the ports on the T440 be downgraded temporarily to USB2?

Try not plugging it all the way, and it should function as USB2.

But if it doesn't work on a USB 2 hub, it probably won't work this way either.

Truth be told, I've heard of similar problems with such devices (DVB-T tuners). I was shocked that such crappy devices can exist, but apparently they do.

Resolving it? Hammer the device into little pieces and buy a new one that works. Except whether the tuner or the laptop - I'm not sure. :)

Or try this:
