WTB: X60 tablet SXGA+ (1400x1050)

#1 Post by award » Thu Aug 21, 2014 4:32 pm

I am looking for an X60 that has an SXGA+ screen (HV121P01-100).

I do not care about hard drives, ram, keyboard, or any of that.

If you have just the screen, that's fine. If you have it attached to the tablet, that's fine as well.

I'm looking to spend $150 and below. And then let me know how much shipping to California is, so I can add that, as well.

FUTURE: SXGA+ upgrade(looking for converter), moving internals to x60 body.

I contacted that person earlier today to verify this was the 1400x1050 screen, actually. :) I'm waiting to hear back from them to make sure this has a HV121P01-100.

This package arrived today from an eBay bid last week. So I figure buying the entire tablet will protect the main thing I care about, and I won't have to go through this mess again :)

They've already sold a boatload of these machines over the past six months or so. Someone would've complained about the wrong screen at this point.

Not affiliated with the seller, but I'd presume it a pretty safe bet...

Ah, that does make sense. I was thrown off a bit after reading this blog post on the 6363-HAU.

I've gone ahead and bought one from them. I'm hoping to have better luck in shipping than earlier today.

For now, I'll leave this open until the item arrives, and close it when I have a working SXGA+ in hand. :)

I'm still open to offers

I've bought 4 X60T and 4 X61T - 7761-K3U (actually much more than that) from this seller and have successfully took the screen assembly from the X60T and transplant it into a X61T. It was a straight forward and easy swap with no modifications on my part. All 6363-HAU screens were indeed SXGA+ and flawless. I liked the keyboard bezel and palm rest from the X60T better so I switched that also. A lot of components are interchangeable between X60T and X61T. The left over machines got put back together and sold in the local classifieds so average cost per T601T for me is around $100 before the additional upgrades below.

All machines have been upgraded to 4 GB RAM, SSD, Middleton's BIOS, new 9 cell battery, Win 7 and 5300 AGN or 6300 AGN. Of course I took everything apart to blow out the dust, general cleaning and reapply TIM. Also removed the modem card and the WWAN module if there was one.

It's fast and is one my favourite of all my desktops, tablets, laptops and Thinkpads.

Good luck with yours.

Cigarguy: for reference, from where did you get the new batteries?

I would sue USPS in Belmont CA if I were you, that's no way to treat any package!
Although putting on a "Fragile" sticker is just asking those USPS-morons to kick it around (literally)!

Dagnabbit! I knew I forgot to blank something out ;'( And funny you mention that. I had just gone to the USPS earlier that day, and saw them literally throw somebody's package from the front desk to their coworker's direction about 10 feet away (the coworker didn't attempt to catch it, as well, and just let it land near them). I'll be using Fedex or another USPS to mail items out.

I'm pretty sure I live in the highest concentration of neanderthals. This is concreted by the fact that I can see the Oracle building from my window.

I'm going to assume this is to get around the adhesive issues that seem to plague the X61T?

Also, is there any particular reason you use Intel chips for the wifi? Just curious as they've been hit or miss for me, but Atheros seems to be good luck as far as support and speeds go.

Middleton is definitely the way to go. I'm guessing the x60/SXGA+ firmware will still require me to either get a converter cable or splice them myself. So this means the regular x60 firmware only allows for XGA, I'm guessing? Ah well

Yes no bubbles to worry about. Swapping screen assembly was also dead easy. Don't want to really mess with screen assembly unless I absolutely have to.

My experience with Atheros and Intel is exactly opposite of yours. Still having trouble finding a decent AR9380 driver even after trying 8 different downloads and have spent way to much time searching for one.

Again, no need for ANY modification. No need for splicing and dicing. Middleton's BIOS takes care of everything else. At most I'd swap the screen bezel so that it says "X61" vs "X60" to match the hardware. If, like me, you plan on taking everything apart to reapply TIM, you will have to take off the screen assembly. When it's time to put everything back together simply install the X60T screen assembly rather than the X61T screen. It's that simple.

Actually, one can just swap the clear plate...

Yes that is true if one is not a Neanderthal like myself. After breaking beyond repair a couple of them I gave up and prefer to replace bezels.
