The Update Connector is IMO practically useless. Every time I have used it, it has been slow and often failed to pick up the latest drivers.

Downloading from the driver matrix: http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.ws ... MIGR-46258 and then using the IBM ThinkPad software installer is much more effective.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

I agree that it is better to download the updates and apply them. If you save the IBMTOOLS folder and save your two most recent updates, you can always have the files to rebuild your machine if and when you need to.

The Update Connector does that too on my NetVista desktop.

I installed the UC on my A21p (which is supported even though it predates the first UC release) but have never been able to get past the splash screen. It just sits there until I manually kill javaw.exe. AFAIK I have the latest Java runtime.

Perhaps that the latest version (5.32) of UC is now almost a year old is an indication that IBM couldn't make it work reliably either and finally gave up.
