Could I claim these things under warranty for X24

#1 Post by daeojkim » Mon May 23, 2005 10:26 am

Ok. So I had such a good experience with IBM warranty service that I am thinking of asking for few more things because I believe my X24 needs some service. Do you think this are possible?

1. The keyboard rattles, very annoying. I originally thought that it was rattling because one of the screw was missing. After replacing the screw, the rattling is less, but it seems like quite few keys in the keyboard is actually lose and causing rattling while I type. I am wondering if this is a design flaw or something that happenes due to age.

2. The screen wobbles back and forth. Unlike the T42 or A31p it seems like the hinge is not well supprted. I tightened the screws but it is not the hinge itself but the place where the LCD monitor and hinge are connected. I think this may explain why the cover is not closing tightly.

3. Now the most important. The serial number and UUID is not entered in BIOS. Thus I cannot use the Thinkpad software installer. Should I send it to IBM to get this fixed? I am not sure how this could have happened. If IBM finds out that serial number and UUID on the motherboar is not there, will it void the warranty? The serial number sticker is on the bottom but not on BIOS.

Take it to the service immediately and let them repair 1,2 and 3
Let's go'n'restart :-)

So I called IBM today and guess what? There is an authorized IBM service center like few blocks away from where I live.

I will take the laptop and hopefully they can take care of the keyboard, hinge, and the serial number / UUID problem :) :)

How can you hate IBM???

Do you have TPP? I've only heard of people with TPP sending in the notebook to the depot, but I'd be interested if bringing it to the Authorized Service Center is also an option.

TPP? I don't know.
i think it just has basic 3 year warranty.
If you call IBM and tell them where you live they will be able to tell you the nearest service center near you. Luckily mine was only about half a mile away.

It is just a generic computer service center that repair, sell computer equipments and it seems like they are subcontractors for IBM to do repairs.
