upgrade primary HD on R32

#1 Post by bigdaddyblues » Mon May 23, 2005 12:23 pm

I have a Thinkpad R32 2659 BNU.
I want to upgrade my primary hard drive from a 20G to a larger HD.
I ordered a 80G but not sure if it will work.
What size hard drive can I upgrade to???
I'm going to use my 20G as a 2nd HD with the bay adapter.

I want to install Windows Xp (currently using Win2K)

Could someone send me the steps on configuring my hard drive after installing it. I'm new at this.

thanks,

As long as your new HD is the 2.5" notebook HD, just remove your old HD. Pop in the new one. Install Win XP and you are good to go.

There is no special instruction for this.

The largest HD on the market right now is 100GB 5400 rpm.
Hitachi and Seagate will release 120GB in few months.

daeojkim,
It sounds so easy. I don't have to go in the bios setting or anything like that? Will windows xp have all the drivers?

It is really that easy. Bios will automatically pick up the drive, and WinXP will recognize it just fine, provided you have IDE specified as boot device in the Bios.

Pop in the new drive, load the WinXP cd, restart, and follow instructions. Have fun.

Did you get your new hard drive to work in your R32? I bought an 80gb hitachi for my R32 and can't get it to recognize in the bios. I'm trying desperately to find someone who can guide me on this problem. I also tried a toshiba of the same size - no beans.

If you got yours to go, please let me know how!
