13.3" MacBook Pro Retina display into X301

#1 Post by Qing Dao » Sat Sep 13, 2014 12:27 pm

I checked out the compatibility of the X301 with the internal eDP that many newer computers use. The X301 has all of the compatible wires, but just not in the correct format. Re-routing wires is relatively simple. The X301's displayport connector has four channels, which is the same amount as used on the 13.3" MacBook Pro Retina display. The only real issue is that the X301 uses displayport 1.0. On four channels, it provides enough bandwidth for the Retina display. On the T500 it is impossible because the resolution of the 15.4" retina display exceeds the T500's displayport 1.0 bandwidth. So the issue is wondering if the retina displays are compatible with displayport 1.0. I just want to know if anyone has any thoughts or insight on this.

This is a good idea, but I think I have only seen the 13.3" MBP displays produced and sold bonded to the front glass.
