T60 maximum RAM size
T60 maximum RAM size
Hello Folks,
T60 can utilize upto 3GB memory only because of its north bridge [ http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T60 ] and http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_945GM. However, modern operating systems with high graphic application and web-source with huge http traffic makes the very great T60 inefficient.
Questions:
1- Can we replace north bridge? So the CPU can see more memory.
2- Are there any motherboards (lets say more 8 GB or more) that fit to T60 frame but without any restriction of memory?
Thanks,
ali

Re: T60 maximum RAM size
First question is what model T60 do you have? Only a few are worth the trouble to upgrade to the extent you need.
1. Easiest, most cost effective method would be to replace the whole system with something newer.
2. A motherboard from a 14" 4:3 T61 will fit with minor modifications into a 15" 4:3 chassis to create the much discussed (on this forum) Frankenpad.

Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E
Re: T60 maximum RAM size
The Product ID is 2007-CB7 and my terminal of fedora 20 reports screen dimensions as below:
[root@thishost ~]# xdpyinfo | grep 'dimensions:'
dimensions: 1400x1050 pixels (370x277 millimeters)
Is it 14 inch?
Frankenpad sounds intersting. I will have a look at it.

Are you suggesting to get a new machine?1. Easiest, most cost effective method would be to replace the whole system with something newer.

Re: T60 maximum RAM size
I have another question along the same lines. A friend claims to have a T60
with a 45nm T8100 processor, I thought this was not possible with that chip
set or did I miss that one of the hacked BIOS's allows it? Guessing it has a
T61 motherboard if it is really a T60 chassis - a Frankenpad.

Frankenpad 15" TuuS MB X9000, T61 14" doner, T61 15" fixed gave away

There is no way to get a T60 board to POST with a T8100 or any of the Socket P CPUs. End of story.

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
