T510 Ram question.
Is the T510 picky on ram, it will get past POST with Crucial ram from my HP Probook 6455B but will not actually boot up windows. It is DDR3-1333, 4 chips per side. 2x4gb.

Re: T510 Ram question.
I've noticed that Thinkpads beginning with the T400/T500 generation have been picker on RAM than my Elitebooks. RAM that works in the Thinkpads stays in the Thinkpad while those that won't usually is put in an Elitebook. Having said that, it's not often that RAM will not work in a Thinkpad. Yes it's picky but not that picky.

Re: T510 Ram question.
These machines are likely to bark - in various ways - at anything apart from PC3 8500, at least in my experience.

Re: T510 Ram question.
Well, if you could get your hands on Lenovo-issued DDR3 8500 DIMMs I'd say that you'd likely be in the safe zone.steveg1988 wrote:Is there any ram that is 100% guaranteed to work?
I'll be receiving some GSKILL 8500 DIMMs later this week and can report back on their behaviour.

Re: T510 Ram question.
If it helps any I am using the following RAM as identified by CPU-Z:
Module Size: 4096 MBytes
Max bandwidth: PC3-10700 (667 MHz)
Manufacturer: Hyundai Electronics
P/N: HMT351SCFR8C-H9
Serial: 102B9C4C
I am using 2 of these in my T410 and they work great.
If you want I can pull the DIMM cover off later and find what company has attached a sticker to the SODIMMS.

Re: T510 Ram question.
Not needed, since i can probably find it just via looking at the P/N. Thank you tho.Temetka wrote:If it helps any I am using the following RAM as identified by CPU-Z:

Re: T510 Ram question.
If you do enough searching around the 'net, you will find multiple complaints about Crucial "recommended" RAM not working.steveg1988 wrote:Is the T510 picky on ram, it will get past POST with Crucial ram from my HP Probook 6455B but will not actually boot up windows. If you read many threads, you will finally come to the conclusion that "4 chips per side" RAM in the larger sizes is "1Rx8" and it simply does not work in all motherboards. You are always better off buying "8 chips per side" "2Rx8" RAM.
Despite the manufacturers recommendations (Crucial and others), "2Rx8" is the better choice for compatibilty purposes.
I just put a Samsung 4GB PC3-10600 stick in a T410 (the 2GB original stick is a PC3-8500). Both memory sticks are 2Rx8 and there were no issues.
Re: T510 Ram question.
Anytime. Let us know what kind of RAM you go with and it works out for you. Always good to have more info in the vault here at the TPF.steveg1988 wrote:Not needed, since i can probably find it just via looking at the P/N. Re: T510 Ram question.
GACrabill is correct. The problem is 1 rank vs 2 rank. The RAM speed doesn't matter PC3-8500 vs. PC3-10700. The faster ram works perfectly at the slower speeds.GACrabill wrote:If you do enough searching around the 'net, you will find multiple complaints about Crucial "recommended" RAM not working.
