X31 replacement battery error

#1 Post by Puppy » Tue Sep 30, 2014 9:44 am

Seven years ago I bought refurbished X31 via USAnotebook. It still runs perfectly but the original battery (Panasonic) capacity went down from 42 Wh to 30 Wh. I also bought a spare non-original battery offered by USAnotebook (well, no warranty after 7 years) but haven't used it since that.

Now I tried to use and charge the "new" one. LED battery indicator makes one orange flash, stop, followed by seven orange flashes. The Battery Indicator application that is part of ThinkPad Configuration utility shows 0% capacity (later after one minute message "error !") but Battery health status is ok and shows full capacity. The Voltage indicator reported 6.8 V but the Wattage one zero. Does it mean the battery is dead or just needs more time to start charging ? I rather removed it after five minutes to prevent any damage and returned the original one.

The battery in question is dead and gone.
