T42 won't reboot when in dock station

#1 Post by aghusker » Mon May 23, 2005 7:12 pm

My T42 hangs up on the intital "IBM" bios screen when rebooting, but only when the t42 is docked. It just started acting like this a month or 2 ago. Before, there were no problems.

Any ideas?
I have the bios version 3.15 installed..

I have had the same problem with my T41. I gave up on using the Dock II and went back to the port replicator. Hope we can find an answer.

Same problem with a T40p (2373-G3U) and a Port Replicator II.

I have the same problem w my Dock II and my T42P. But I think it only started happening after I tried to install the new BT drivers. I finally went back to the MS BT drivers, but I still have the reboot problem. Basically, the computer starts up, but reboots itself before completely starting up WinXP SP2. It then restarts and I have to boot into Safe Mode.

My current 'fix' for this is to reboot while undocked, and then I dock after Windows XP has started.

I wish I knew how to fix this.

Do you have any removable USB devices connected to the ThinkPad or port replicator II? If so, remove the item, system should boot normally.

well, just the external keyboard (PS) and mouse (USB) and dell monitor... nothing else. Removing these kinda defeats the purpose of the dock.

Since the problem just started recently. Have you tried doing a system restore? It sounds like a software issue and not a hardware issue since you are able to boot normally when undocked.

i actually did that. I did a system restore to the night before the bluetooth escapade. And, strangely enough, it still hung during reboot.

I am not sure what this is. I may try and disconnect the monitor (it has a USB hub in the monitor...) and see what happens. Will post my findings

Any updates on the fix for this issue? I'm having the exact same problem with my T42 + MiniDock.

Thanks.
