I uninstalled as much as I could of system software and applications in an attempt to find the conflicting software, but it didn't work out. I can't say for sure it was Power Manager that caused it, but I couldn't remove Power Manager, as the uninstall file didn't work. Judging from your experience, it probably wasn't Power Manager, so maybe I'll create an image and attempt this upgrade one more time.
Not Win10 related, but need to verify the information given above: I made another attempt on upgrading to Win8.1 last night. After the first reboot it appeared to be acting up this time too, but not as bad. When it finally came back, I got an error message telling me that one of the ATI components was incompatible, so I uninstalled all the ATI components and let it go to the generic Microsoft driver. After that Win8.1 worked just fine, including the Power Manager. Graphics doesn't work properly, though, so I'll see what the ATI-modder can do for me.

Just updated to what is described as "Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview Build 10049", which is an interesting experience. There is now finally something called "Tablet Mode" which maximises the Metro screen. In non-tablet mode, the Metro screen is what you see on the right hand side of the Start Menu, and it can be maximized and minimized back and forth. I remember some users here on the forum wished for something just like this when Win8 initially came out. So I think Microsoft is definitely onto something here, and I'm looking forward to Win10 comes out.

I just installed the latest version on a W500. Went very smooth. Every device is recognized in device manager.

I had it in discrete graphics mode in BIOS when I upgraded.

Have been using the windows 10 preview for a while now on a T500. All the drivers are now provided by microsoft and they work. The only nagging problem is the T500 has switchable graphics so every time there is a new build, the bios settings go back to switchable and I get a black screen but the thinkpad is running. I have to power off get to bios and set it back to discrete graphics and everything works fine.

On build 10159 microsoft has finally "fixed" this and no longer changes the bios settings. Will see if this breaks again in a new build. Just finished downloading 10162...... three builds in three days.

Well, I'm on build 10240 and only 2 days off the launch date of july 29. It is running beautifully.
But in the "Get Windows App" suddenly it appears, that the T60 is not compatible and will not receive the much awaited update, because of the Radeon X1300 graphics.
So what does one do now? A possible workaround is simply to remove the display adapter in device manager. Surprice, the screen does not go black but some pnp-driver is there instead and there is still a functioning screen. And now the T60 is compatible!
Strange enough, the default "Microsoft basic display driver" is not compatible.
