Question about T43 temps running elementary OS(PICTURE)
Question about T43 temps running elementary OS(PICTURE)
I recently purchased a nice working T43 with the Pentium M 750 and was wondering if my operating temps were fine because it feels quite warm on the bottom. I got a reading of the temps of the sensors but don't know which reading is which and if the readings are too high given the fact the bottom is very warm to the touch.
I am sorry if this has been answered a million times before but i searched for T43 temps and couldn't find the info i was looking for. I love the computer and got it for a steal because it had no os, which was actually exactly what i wanted because it is mainly for web browsing so i wanted to install a ligher weight Linux OS. I installed elementary OS and it works perfectly and makes the laptop feel much more modern but I am just not sure on the readings and if its running too hot and i should do something.
I am already running a CPU frequency scaler and have it set on "conservative" but if its still running too hot i will obviously need a cooling pad and maybe some simple mods. Any answers would be greatly appreciated as i realize this is an older computer and don't want it running hot on older used hardware. Again i am sorry if the answers are already out there i just couldn't find them myself and figured it would be easier to ask for input from someone who knows these computers better than myself.

Re: Question about T43 temps running elementary OS
Are these idle temps?
The T43s are known for running pretty hot as it is, and those temps don't look any worse than what mine runs at.
After doing the usual maintenance stuff, like blowing out any dust in the fan, I'd recommend replacing the thermal paste, and see if it improves any.

My "daily drivers":

Re: Question about T43 temps running elementary OS
those temps are while under light use, basically just some internet browsing for a while and i got those readings, i found out which sensor was which and after watching like 20 min of video the cpu temp rose to 63 and gpu to 71, im just not sure where it should be kept for the most part, the temps dont seem that scary its just how hot the bottom feels that makes me a little worried
Re: Question about T43 temps running elementary OS
It seems some hot. I can get 71 at GPU only after some hours of heavy gaming(1.86GHz downvoltaged CPU)G357THIZZ wrote:20 min of video the cpu temp rose to 63 and gpu to 71

thanks, im going to look into the thermal paste and short term get a cooling pad for it, it seems the gpu is mainly what is getting hot, the cpu temp doesnt seem ridiculous but the gpu getting that warm after a couple youtube videos doesn't seem good

Re: Question about T43 temps running elementary OS(PICTURE)
My T43p didn't seem too hot when web browsing, I had it on my lap, left leg got all the heat but it was bearable until I had oatmeal and coffee.
Outside temperature is 75 degrees for this test.
Max was 69 degrees for both CPU and GPU when watching a video on Minitube.
On my lap its a decent 63 degrees, on the desk it is 60 while typing as I speak.
Now that the hot food is finished, it is bearable for lap use again.
I had repasted the CPU and GPU last year, got lucky with the compound staying put on here.
Maybe I should of replaced it, regardless this machine isn't as hot as my first X61T with its stock wifi card, so its bearable to use.
Unsure if its eOS but it seems my speakers are blown.

Re: Question about T43 temps running elementary OS(PICTURE)
ur running eOS as well? so 71° for the gpu isnt horrible? i think the cpu temps r acceptable but im just trying to make sure im not doing any damage to the older hardware because I really do like the t43 running eOS im just a little concerned with operating temps.

Yep eOS Luna, 2GB RAM, 2.26GHz CPU and the FireGL V3200 GPU.
I got the 'long' T43p fan which covers the GPU.
Its pretty warm, not hot to touch yet but I'm guessing since its older and linux, they tend keep us cozy for winter.

Re: Question about T43 temps running elementary OS(PICTURE)
lol i feel u, i wish the gpu would stay under 70 but maybe a cooling pad will help with that
you got a nice setup with those specs, the main thing im looking to upgrade at the moment is the ram because its got 1gb but for now its ok, just could be better
i considered downgrading to macpup because of my ram but eOS is just much better in my opinion, only os i would cinsidering switching for would be mint or opensuse but theyre too much for my specs
