WTB: HDD cover for Thinkpad 560Z

#1 Post by Norway Pad » Sun Oct 19, 2014 12:33 pm

Does anybody here have a spare HDD cover for a Thinkpad 560 that they would want to sell? And wouldn't mind shipping it to Norway? I have a 560Z, but I assume these covers are the same across the entire 560 range.

HDD covers are usually easy to find on eBay, but not for this little guy..

Thanks for any help!

Admin edit: Changed topic to reflect 560Z since the other 560 models do not have a HD cover.

I've got some plastics from 560 series laptops, but - correct me if I am wrong - the hard drive does not have a cover as it is buried under the palmrest (left hand side). Do you mean a RAM cover maybe?

Hmm. This might be a difference between the models in the 560 range, then. I have also seen pictures where the 560 hard drive appears to be accessible through removing the keyboard. But the 560Z I got lacks a piece of plastic on the lower left hand side, and you can look straight into the hard drive bay. So there is definitely a hard drive cover on the Z.

Digging out a bunch of old HMMs.... The 560, 560E and 560X had the hard drive buried under the left side of the keyboard. The 560Z has the now-familiar HD bay and cover. The FRU for the cover is listed as part of a group of "mechanical parts": 05K5423. Unfortunately, my 560Z came to me without that HD cover (and its replacement is coming the same way; talk about rare parts!).

This is a perfect application for a 3-D printer :) .

That makes sense, and it also explains why this part appears to be so rare. It's not often that we see the actual laptop case changes over the course of a series like this, but the 560 apparently did.

I sure hope someone has this part for sale, though. Or if you know sources for such parts that I'm not aware of, that would be great to know too.

Giving this thread a bump, just in case some new users see this.

Still very interested in buying a HDD cover for my 560Z. However, this seems to be the rarest Thinkpad part I have ever run into..

Giving this WTB a last bump before I let it retire in peace.
