T43p Update
Uh, it's not us that's missing something
I think you went a little far by asking us to make sure we post what makes sense because in this case it appears to be you that's missing something. Almost all LCD panel manufacturers have an "allowed" number of dead pixels before they will consider a display defective and IBM is no exception. I had my T22 screen (which had no dead pixels, but did have other problems) replaced under warranty and got my machine back with one stuck pixel. The machine wasn't considered to be defective. Making a big fuss MIGHT help, but doesn't have to. If you have 1 dead pixel on your new Thinkpad and it bugs the heck out of you, you're only recourse might be to return the unit within the 30 day no questions window and place an order for a new one - that's why I mentioned the price difference.

Fair enough I must not be thinking of the same thing.sprior wrote:I think you went a little far by asking us to make sure we post what makes sense because in this case it appears to be you that's missing something. And for what it's worth, that bit in my sig is for the people who can't even write in plain english. We all misunderstand at times, but when posting at least make sure you picked the right letters and put them in the right order!

Re: Uh, it's not us that's missing something
Having been on enough forums, it seems some just aren't trying (wrong letters and jumbling them up are not the same in my experience as just having a bad grasp of the language). Although I know what you mean. Anyway back on topic.nonny wrote:English is not the first language for many valuable members of this forum.emorphien wrote:And for what it's worth, that bit in my sig is for the people who can't even write in plain english.

Well, no dead pixels for mine, so lucky for that
Having some prob getting IBM to talk to Apple though. I have a wireless network using Airport Extreme and iBook. However, I can't seem to use the T43p to join the network.
The Airport Extreme is using 40-bit encryption WEP (seems strange, 40-bit?), and seems to need specifically a 13 character password. However, since I am not familiar with Mac/Airport, not sure if the 13 char password is referring to the network key required? And even after keying in that password, it still can't connect. Thinking of checking the MAC filtering, but also can't seem to find the settings in Airport. Any recommendations?
And I also got 1 extra screw in the box. Any idea what that is for?
Otherwise, so far seems like no issue. Creating recovery CD now.

Doltan,
The screw is for the CD-rw. It can be fixed by the screw if you don't want the hot plug.
BTW,
Does the fan issue bother you?

Nope, can't really hear it casually. Did not really try to listen specially for it, but if I normally can't hear it, it's good enough for me.BTW,

However, I have not really tried any CPU/GPU intensive programs on it yet (too busy with work to explore it fully atm), so it might get louder when it is being taxed.
To be honest that's to be expected and wouldn't bother me any. My dell sounds like a wind tunnel when it's really getting toasty on the standard fan control profiles. I have a custom profile I've labelled "class" that starts the fans at lower temps and runs them at lower speeds to maintain low noise while I'm in class (obviously!).Doltan wrote: However, I have not really tried any CPU/GPU intensive programs on it yet (too busy with work to explore it fully atm), so it might get louder when it is being taxed.
My friend has a Dell 8600 that sounds like it's winding up for a take off when the fans kick in at full speed. Doesn't seem to happen often though.
Even if the T43p is just like those, I won't be complaining. From what I understand the T42 and below were unusually quiet, so even if the 43 is average it's not gonna bother me.

I called IBM/Lenovo this morning, and the rep told me again the same thing I posted before: the 2687E4U will be in stock three weeks after my order (May 21), which is June 10. It needs another week to be configured, so it will be shipped around June 21.
I am glad to hear the current reports on 15" T43p, sounds like it is worth waiting.

Are you saying that when you order a CTO notebook, the removable componenets like Mini-PCI, HDD, etc. are not installed in the machine?!?chbone wrote:My status update:
The rep promise me to ship before June 9th. But I have already received the components at May 13. I have returned them back today since I don't want them to be out of 30 days return policy.
Or did you purposely order that way, not using the customize option on the Web site, but ordering each part separately?

Just got a few T43p's..
H3U..
all have perfect displays..
yes, the fan sounds SLIGHTLY louder than the T42p (Q1U) sitting next to it..
(very subjective because the fans compete with the buzzing in my ears/head)
all in all i'm going to miss my Q1U as it is a super thinkpad model..
when a rep says "estimated" it means "ESTIMATED"..
they might say 10 business days, but that is all they know from their system..

Update: got my T43P(H2U) and perfect screen
I'm breathing a sigh of relief - I got my T43P yesterday and no dead pixels. The fan is a little louder than I'm used to for a laptop, but not a problem (I'm used to having fans around I guess). The hard drive on the other hand is VERY quiet. IBM doesn't make the specs at all clear on the multi-burner DVD drive, but I have already tested it with DVD+RW disks and they worked fine (I couldn't find anything promising +R(W) write support from IBM, but it works). I'm sure DVD-RW will be no problem either.

Those who have got your 15" UXGA T43p, can you make a comparison between 15" UXGA T42p?
