X31 + IDE/ZIF + KingSpec SSD problem.

#1 Post by Python.p » Tue Nov 11, 2014 7:51 pm

Hi,

i have X31 i want to refresh this beutiful machine.... I bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/181116021734?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT because i have one more Kingspec 1,8 ZIF SSD (from dead D420)

I have problem with that unit.
The good: BIOS find them and recognize.
The bad: a not ablet to boot live linux errno=-16 ( i tryed CrunchBang, Xubuntu, Mint - all non-pae) after that i tried Puppy and it works.

The problem is, when i boot puppy (to RAM), i install it in SSD, all going right. I manage partion on SSD, only one big + flagged for boot, grub is instaled. reboot and here we go, sda1. problem:

Code: Select all

find --set-root --ignore-flopies --ignore-cd /puppy_tahr_6.0.sfs
Error 15: file not found
2nd option - sdb1/boot

Code: Select all

setting root to (hd0,0)
...

decompressing Linux... Parsing ELF... No relocation needed.. done.
booting the kernel.
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
...
...
random: nonblocking pool is initialized
i have no clue how to manage it...
X301 - "WKS"
T42p - Old-school gaming machine... (not moded yet)
past: X220,T420,T400,X60,X31....

I don't know how to solve your problem, but I can comment on using an X31 or X32 for linux... the only video drivers that work currently are the VESA framebuffer, or the open-source radeon drivers, both of which perform very poorly for even basic things like rendering a terminal in X. You might actually have a better time on an X30, as while its CPU is much slower the intel video is properly supported for minimal acceleration.
The exact same problem manifests in all ATI-equipped T4x machines and the T30.
Give your T43/T43p/R52/X41 the SATA it deserves! http://mikejmoffitt.com/sata
