Where to buy non-stinky HDD rails?

#1 Post by sojourner » Thu Nov 13, 2014 11:20 pm

Can anyone fill me in on where to buy the grey color rails we occasionally see on the internet (but can no longer find)?

I've been an X60 owner for some years and noticed two different color HDD rubber rails were typically available, grey and black, black being predominant. All the black rails I own emit a nasty burnt rubber smell when warm, the grey do not, and are also more supple. Can no longer find grey rails (I've even written a supplier which had grey pictured, only to find they sold black). Were to find them? Anyone?

Appreciate the help!
BTW, the following models use the same rails:
x60,T60,T60p,T61,T61p,T400,T500,W500,X60,X60s,X61,X61s,X200 (there may be more)

X300/X301 don't use rubber rails.
Also, they have 1.8" drives that fit in a special groove.
The others mentioned all have 2.5" drives and can use rubber rails.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I wonder, if two different part numbers (41V9756, 41V9757) represent two variety of rails. This is the first time I learn, there are two different rail compositions.
