Middleton BIOS and compatibility with critical updates

#1 Post by studer58 » Mon Nov 17, 2014 7:33 am

Just before I bought a Samsung 840 Pro SSD for my W500 (W7 64 bit Professional, 4061-32M, 8GB RAM, T9600@2.00 GHz) I flashed it with the Middleton BIOS so that it could take advantage of the SATA 2 speed, but with recent Lenovo critical updates it seems to have negated the Middleton BIOS with more recent critical updates, so that the current BIOS installed is 6FET93WW (3.23) release date 12/10/12, SMBIOS 2.4.

While the Middleton BIOS achieves several desirable outcomes, especially when an SSD is installed, it seems to be more important to accumulate regular Lenovo updates for BIOS ? Excuse my ignorance of these matters, but is there a conflict between the Middleton BIOS and regular BIOS updates from Lenovo ? I also have a T61, and the same issue is applicable there. Thank you for any help or clarification you can provide !

Middleton's BIOS on a W500 only switches Ctrl/Fn keys.
W500 is standard already SATA II.

That SATA II option BIOS only applies to T61/X61/R61/X300 machines.
